95 Boys Red Veterans' Cup Champion

The Cutters 95 Boys Red (U16) won the Veteran’s Cup Tournament in Evansville on 11/13 & 11/14.  The team defeated the Chicago Magic Blue 2-0, Evansville SC 95 Premiere 2-0, and tied Three Lions Premier 94/95 1-1 to advance to the final against the Illinois Fusion.  The Fusion conceded their first goal of the tournament in the Cutters 1-0 final victory.  Assistant Coach Darren Wright (filling-in for head coach Tom Berry on paternity leave)  said “The team did a great job coming together and playing well in their first tournament of the season.  They showed a lot of character playing hard and fighting their way through some tough games.  I’m excited for them and for what should be the first of many positive results they see throughout the season.”

94 Boys Red Veterans' Cup Finalist

Congrats to Cutters Boys 94′ Red (U17) who traveled to Evansville, IN host of the Veterans Invitational.  The team advanced to the Championship game after three wins in group play over Sporting Indiana FC, South Central Soccer Academy, and Columbus Express.  The final match was back and forth with formidable opponent IPSC and after 100 minutes (regulation + 2OT) came down to penalty kicks which ended in favor of IPSC.
Coach Gallagher commented on his teams overall performance by saying, “I was pleased with our organization defensively and believe the boys were confident/dangerous in the attack.  Each player contributed significant minutes which led to our stingy defense; yielding only one goal in four games.”
Cutters 94′ Red will travel to Memphis, TN December 4-5th to participate in the GIT College Showcase.

Former Cutter Cassady Named Summit Player of the Week

Former Cutters Soccer Club member Galen Cassady was named the Summit League “Defensive Player of the Week” for his defensive contribution and game winning goal against rival Oakland on Saturday, Oct 2nd.   Galen is the son of former club president Michael Cassady.  Galen is joined on the IUPUI team with his younger brother Mason.

Cassady earns his first career award after scoring the game-winning goal from his defensive position in IUPUI’s 2-1 victory that handed Oakland its first regular season league loss since 2006. The goal was the first of Cassady’s collegiate career and lifted the Jaguars’ to their first triumph over the Golden Grizzlies since 2002. Defensively, Cassady was responsible for marking Makesi Lewis, OU’s team leader in shot attempts and shots on goal, and limited him to one shot on goal during the match.

93 Red President's Cup Regional Champs!

The 93 Cutters Red won the regional President’s Cup in Wisconsin on June 18-20.  The team has now qualified to attend the National Championships with other Region II age group winners in Tennessee, July 8th.

From IYSA website….

“We are proud of these teams and their success as they have progressed through the US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup from the state to regional, and now onto the national level,” said Larry Monaco, president of US Youth Soccer. “Each level of the Presidents Cup highlights competition, camaraderie and community through the great sport of soccer and we look forward to crowning the National Presidents Cup champions in Murfreesboro.”

The US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup is designed for those teams seeking additional challenges to play against teams of similar abilities for a national title.  The cup provides a progressive, competitive experience to teams that might not otherwise get the opportunity to participate in a series of unique experiences highlighting competition, camaraderie and community from the state to regional to national levels of US Youth Soccer.

98 Boys White (U12) Siege at St Francis Champs

98 Boys White

Congratulations to the 98 Boys White (u12) for winning the Siege at St Francis tournament on June 5/6.  The team went 3-0 in the round robin stage to advance to the final.  The game remained scoreless in the final and ended with penalty kicks.  The Cutters penalty takers made some great shots while the Cutters keeper came up big saving two of the 5 opponent’s shots.  “The team played great all weekend and found a way to win” said Coach Troy Englehardt.  “All the games were very close and we defeated some opponents that were very good.  I’m just thrilled for the boys and glad to see them improving.”

Cutters 93 Red (U17) advance to President's Cup

Congratulations to Coach Madvig and the Cutters 93 Red team for winning the Indiana State League (ISL) Premiere division.  The winner of the ISL league for each age group (U14-U17) receives an invitation to represent the State of Indiana at the Region II President’s Cup.  The 93 Red team will play against the other Region II state teams in Verona, Wisconsin June 18-20.  “It’s been a wonderful surprise to get the opportunity to play at the level the President’s Cup will provide.  This should be a great experience for the players competing against the other state’s best.  The boys are very excited to go and represent the state of Indiana.” said Coach Don Madvig. “I’m very proud of these boys and their effort this season”.

Cutters 94 Red (U16) SWISA Soccer Classic Champs

Congratulations to the Cutters 94 Boys Red team for winning the SWISA Soccer Classic on May 7-9.  Coach Paul Kerridge reported,  “We really found our goal scoring boots…in the first game we scored a good number of goals and then it just kept going, that was key to the success. The other great attribute we had was that we seemed really fit.  As other teams were tiring we were still fresh, this resulted in us scoring late in every game, most importantly the game winner in the final with less than ten minutes to play.”

92 Girls (U18) Finalists at Jr Irish Invitational

Congrats to the 92 Girls for advancing to the finals of the Jr Irish Memorial Day Invitational.  The team advanced to the final on tie breaker points after  going to 1-1-1 in the round robin.  Coach Paul Kerridge was very pleased to see measurable progress after the girls defeated regular season league foe, Jr Irish NIFA in the round robin.  “The Jr Irish really took it to us during league play early in the season.” said Coach Kerridge.  “Our girls showed great improvement in the rematch and didn’t allow the previous game to be a psychological barrier.  It was a nice display of  their character as players to bounce back with a victory.”

98 Cutter Girls Murray Cup Finalists

Congratulations Cutters 98 Girls for being finalists in the 2010 Murray Cup at Carmel over Memorial Day weekend.  The 98 Girls defeated Carmel United Premiere White 3-0 and Zionsville Eagles Select 2-1 in the round robin to qualify for the final.

Long time 92/93 Cutter’s player Anne Zerfas recently committed to play soccer for the Butler Bulldogs starting in the fall of 2011.  “Butler is a great school and a great fit for Anne to combine her academic pursuits and desire to play soccer in college”, said Tom Berry, Director of Coaching for the Cutters Soccer Club.   “From the time Anne was a young player she always demonstrated a lot of bravery in taking players on to create scoring chances.  That’s something the staff and I tried to encourage and she has become very difficult to defend and prevent from scoring.  I think Butler really likes that about her and believes she’ll be able to use those skills successfully at Butler.”  The Cutters Soccer Club wishes Anne great success with her future Butler team.

Efiom to Nigerian National Team

Efiom - front row 4th from left

Long time Cutters 91 Red team member Gregory Efiom has been invited to join the U-20 Nigerian National Team.  Gregory, a local Bloomington player with dual citizenship is headed to Spain to train with the U-20 team in hopes of making the final roster for the U-20 World Cup in Egypt.  Gregory was enrolled at Marshall University this fall to begin his education and college soccer career when the national team came calling.  He will now join the Marshall soccer team in the spring of 2010.  “Greg has always possessed tremendous potential with his lightening pace.  The club is thrilled to see him receive such a wonderful opportunity and honor to play for the Nigerian National Team and we wish him an incredible experience.”  Said Tom Berry, Director of Coaching for the Cutters Soccer Club.  “Greg can change a game in a flash and he may just do that for Nigeria”.

Efiom international (From hoosiertimes)

Bloomington South grad Greg Efiom is putting his college soccer career on hold. It’s the kind of decision you only make when a national team comes calling. For Efiom, it was the Nigerian national team wanting him to participate in the U-20 World Cup next month.

Efiom reported to Marshall earlier this month, arriving on the same day as a letter requesting his release to play in the tournament. The decision wasn’t easy, but coach Bob Gray helped. “He said, ‘This is an opportunity that you can’t really pass up,’” Efiom said. “He said, ‘Most people would kill to have to make this decision.’ I really took that into consideration.”

So now Efiom will wait to begin classes at Marshall in the spring, leaving him his full complement of college eligibity in 2010.

But he leaves from New York Friday to meet the Nigerian team in Spain, where they will train for three weeks. They will also play exhibition matches in Uzbekistan before heading to Egypt to begin pool play against Venezuela, Tahiti and Spain on Sept. 24.

Many of the current players were on the Nigeria team that previously won the U-17 World Cup, so Efiom will be on a team that is among the favorites in Egypt. He will be the only player not already playing professionally with teammates who are members of renowned teams such as AC Milan.

“I’m definitely excited,” Efiom said. “One of my long-term goals is to play in the World Cup.”

These three young men are excellent students, possess incredible passion for soccer and have consistently demonstrated tremendous dedication to achieving their soccer dreams. Make no mistake, they’ve worked hard to earn their collegiate opportunities”, says Tommy Berry, Director of Coaching for the Cutters Soccer Club. “It’s been a pleasure to work with these players and witness their development over the years. I very much look forward to seeing them all out there on Yeagley Field in the not so distant future. The Cutters community should be very proud.” Northwestern and Indiana are both part of the Big Ten Conference and have an annual match-up. This fall Indiana plays at Northwestern. Their return trip to Bloomington is expected for fall 2010. “Sounds like the perfect game for the annual “Cutters Night” at Yeagley field to me”.
