Tanner Phelps

Starting from fall 2011, long-time Cutter Tanner Phelps (two-season Cutters 93 White and eight-season Cutters 93 Red) begins to play for Franklin College Men’s Soccer Team in NCAA Division III. In a recent interview with Cutters, he talked about his soccer playing experience with Cutters and his current athletic life at college.

Being asked about the most memorable experience with Cutters during his 10-year play, Tanner said, “the most memorable and significant thing that I learned playing for the Cutters was playing around so many great soccer players that all wanted the same thing: to get better at the most beautiful game in the world.”

He also pointed out that playing along some of the best players in the state helped him to adapt the competition level at college, “I was ready for the level of play because I had already played with some very good players”.

Tanner shared with us that the game in college level is much quicker than in youth level, “not necessarily physically faster, but mentally quicker” as he said. “You always have to be thinking two to three passes ahead. It takes a lot of internal motivation and desire to play. No one is going to hand you a starting position no matter how good you are, if you aren’t willing to put the work in, and that includes off the field and in the off-season.”

For the current young cutters playing with the club, Tanner also gave them some advice: “To become a better soccer player you need to realize that you will always have the players around you helping you through all the hardships of what soccer and everyday life brings you.” “The coaches that coach for any Cutters team are some of the best coaches in the state and country in my opinion and you have an amazing director of coaching, Tommy Berry. Don’t take the coaching for granted. Bloomington Cutters gives you the greatest opportunities to excel.”

New Referee Clinic – March 2-4, 2012

Opening for Office Manager

The Cutters Soccer Club, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization is searching for a part-time Office Manager. The Office Manager is the primary contact for all club business and the system manager for the online registration application, GotSoccer.

The duties include

answering calls and e-mails
working as the club registrar
helping members use the online registration application
ensuring players are registered with the State organization
working with teams to answer questions
bookkeeping
maintaining regular hours

The job will include infrequent trips up to the State office in Indianapolis. The work load is seasonal and working hours will be adjusted to include some evening and weekend hours as well as extended day time hours during June tryouts and spring and fall registration. Hours will be reduced during times of the year when the work load is lower. Some flexibility in hours will be required.

Bookkeeping duties include serving as the primary financial record keeper for the Club including monitoring all transactions, managing accounts and preparing financial reports.

Requirements:

Strong interpersonal and communication skills
experience with information technology – applications, internet, Microsoft Office, etc.
must be extremely organized and able to adapt
experience working with a diverse population
self motivated
ethical

Preference may be given to a candidate with experience using Got Soccer or QuickBooks, previous banking or revenue handling experience.

Soccer experience or knowledge of the game is NOT necessary to perform the duties of this position.

PROGRAM: Community Soccer (formerly Cutters Academy) is a non-travel recreational soccer program for boys and girls ages 5 through high school. (Children must turn 6 years old by July 31, 2012 to be eligible.) The program is designed to teach age-appropriate technical and tactical skills in a fun environment that will foster lifelong appreciation and enjoyment playing the game of soccer.

LOCATION: All practices and games are held at Karst Farm Park.

AGE GROUPS: There are six age groups: U6 (August 1, 2005 – July 31, 2006), U8 (August 1, 2003 – July 31, 2005), U10 (August 1, 2001 – July 31, 2003), U12 (August 1, 1999 – July 31, 2001), U14 (August 1, 1997 – July 31, 1999), and U18 (August 1, 1993 – July 31, 1997).

SEASON: The season begins on Saturday, March 31 (U6 only) or Monday, April 2 (all other age groups) and ends on Saturday, June 2 (all age groups). (Note: Games are normally held on Saturday mornings. The only exception is Friday, April 13 instead of Saturday, April 14.)

TIMES: Participants in the U6 age group practice on Saturday mornings at 9:30 am and play games immediately following practice at 10 am. Participants in the U8, U10, U12, or U14 age group practice on Monday evenings (6 pm for the U8s and U10s; 7:15 pm for the U12s and U14s) and play games on Saturday mornings (9:30 am for the U8s and U10s; 10:45 am for the U12s and U14s). Participants in the U18 age group play games on Monday evenings at 6 pm and Saturday mornings at 9:30 am.

INSTRUCTION: Volunteer coaches and Club trainers work with the players during practices. The volunteer coaches lead their respective teams during games.

COST: The registration fee is $95 ($75 for U6s) through February 24, $105 ($80 for U6s) through March 16, and $125 ($85 for U6s) after March 16.

PAYMENT: Online registration requires payment with a credit card or e-check. If you prefer to pay with cash or paper check, please e-mail David Weigand at communitysoccer@cutterssoccer.org to arrange a time to register and pay at the Club office.
